Michael Scholtens

Michael Scholtens is an experienced data and analytics manager currently working at The Carter Center since August 2016, where responsibilities include designing data-driven programs for Peace and Health initiatives. Previous roles at The Carter Center include building tools to monitor digital threats to democracy and conducting analytical work for conflict resolution in Syria. Scholtens has also contributed to election observation and civil society capacity-building efforts in various countries within the Democracy Program. Prior experience includes internships with the U.S. Department of State, where assistance was provided in producing human rights reports, and the Center for Arab-West Understanding, focusing on translating Arabic media. Michael Scholtens holds a Master’s degree in Analytics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, as well as Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in International Relations and Political Science from The University of Edinburgh and Furman University, respectively.
