Betsy Waalen has extensive experience working in fundraising and philanthropy. Betsy currently serves as the Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships at Terrence Higgins Trust since September 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a Fundraising Consultant and Proposal Writer at Commonwealth Blue Charter in 2022. In 2020, they held the role of Director at Fulcrum & Lever Consultants. Additionally, they worked as a Grant Writer and Strategic Planning Consultant at KeraLink International from September 2022 to December 2022. Previously, they served as the International Trusts Manager at Leonard Cheshire from January 2021 to September 2022, where they successfully secured significant grants from trusts and foundations, managed complex grants in Africa and Asia, and demonstrated leadership through organizational changes. Betsy also worked as a Fundraising Consultant at Safetytech Accelerator from January 2021 to March 2021 and as a Major Gifts and Philanthropy Manager at VSO from July 2018 to September 2020. Betsy's earlier experience includes the role of Major Giving Manager at RNIB from December 2015 to July 2018 and serving as a Committee Member for Diversity at Major Donor Special Interest Group from 2017 to 2021.

Betsy Waalen obtained an MSc in Globalisation and Development from SOAS University of London in 2009. Prior to that, they received a BA in Politics and Economics from Whittier College, which they completed in 2007. In addition to their degrees, Betsy has also obtained certifications in project management, humanitarian practice, and WASH essentials from various institutions.
