Mark Madsen has a diverse work experience spanning several decades. Mark is currently the Chief Technology Officer and President at WattIQ since 2016. Before that, from 2010 to 2016, they owned and served as the Principal of MadsenLab Consulting, LLC, where they provided management and technology consulting services for software, network engineering, and data-centric companies. Mark specializes in working with startup companies to recruit, build, and manage effective engineering teams.
Prior to their consulting role, Mark held various positions in different companies. From 2007 to 2009, they worked at GridNetworks as a Senior Program Manager and Director of Analytics, where they helped develop high-definition streaming video software and services. Before that, they were a Senior Lead Program Manager at Microsoft from 2005 to 2006, where they played a key role in negotiating licensing agreements and integrating network management technologies into the System Center family of management technologies.
Mark also co-founded Pinpoint Venture Group in 1999, where they served as a Strategic Partner and Co-Founder. With Pinpoint, they evaluated and made investment decisions for early-stage technology companies. Additionally, they were a Co-Founder and Past Board Member of Allrecipes.com, where they formed Emergent Media, Inc. in 1995 and undertook various consulting contracts.
Earlier in their career, Mark held multiple roles at Network Clarity, Inc. as the VP Product Development and Co-Founder from 2002 to 2005. Mark also worked at Internap Network Services as the Director of Systems Software and Security Engineering from 1997 to 2002, where they contributed to the company's significant growth and IPO in 1999.
Furthermore, Mark's career started at RealNetworks in 1995, where they held various engineering positions. Mark played a pivotal role in the development and scaling of RealAudio, Real's content businesses, and their ecommerce server system.
Mark Madsen has a strong background in Anthropology, focusing primarily on Evolutionary Biology. Mark obtained their Ph.D. degree in June 2020 from the University of Washington, where they conducted extensive research and gained expertise in their field. Prior to their Ph.D., Mark completed their Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison between 1988 and 1990. Earlier, they obtained their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Anthropology from the University of Washington, graduating in 1988. These academic achievements, along with their Ph.D. degree, demonstrate Mark's dedication and commitment to their education in anthropology.
