Elmer Seward has a diverse work experience spanning several decades. Elmer began their career as an English Teacher in Hampton City Public Schools in 1972 and then moved on to work as an Assistant Principal in Southampton County Public Schools from 1983 to 1986. Elmer then joined Poquoson City Public Schools, where they held various roles including Assistant Principal, Principal, and Director of Technology. In 2006, Seward joined Virtual Virginia as a Supervisor of Instruction, and in 2016, they joined WHRO as the Director of eMediaVA. Currently, they are the Vice President of Education Services at WHRO Public Media since December 2018.

Elmer Seward earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Christopher Newport College in 1972. Elmer then went on to pursue a Master of Education degree in School Administration and Supervision from William & Mary, which they completed in 1980.
