Daniel Essert

Senior Scientist, Materials R&d at Apeel Sciences

Daniel Essert has a diverse work experience in various scientific roles. Daniel started their career as a Product Development Intern at Apeel in January 2017 and later became a Process Development Intern in January 2018. Daniel then transitioned into a Scientist role in Process Development in July 2018. During their time at Apeel, they led the technical development of novel formulation projects and utilized DoEs to take formulations from ideation to commercialization. Daniel also characterized lipid-based emulsions using various techniques.

In 2016, Daniel worked as a Quality Assurance Intern at Genentech. In this role, they optimized discrepancy handling in the lab operations branch of quality assurance by designing an internal website that provided helpful contacts, templates, and flowcharts. Daniel collaborated and communicated with other QA specialists in a team setting.

Prior to Genentech, Daniel worked as a Biological Science Aid at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in 2015. Daniel'sresponsibilities included both lab and field work, where they collected and processed biological samples, particularly avian and reptiles. Daniel accurately inputted data into spreadsheets to analyze trends in different species.

Most recently, Daniel returned to Apeel as a Scientist in Materials R&D. In this senior role, they led the technical development of novel formulations to unlock new product categories and improve commercial formulation attributes. Daniel used iterative DoEs to take formulations from ideation to commercialization and characterized lipid-based emulsions using various techniques.

Daniel Essert obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from UC Santa Barbara, graduating between the years 2014 and 2018.
