Moira Bertasa has a strong background in heritage science and research. Moira most recently worked as a Heritage Scientist at Historic Royal Palaces, starting in 2023. Prior to this, they were a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the INO-CNR National Institute of Optics from 2021 to 2022.
In 2020, Moira worked as a Research Assistant at The British Museum, specializing in laser conservation science. Before that, they held the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Turin's Department of Chemistry from 2019 to 2020. Additionally, they were a Fellow at the same department from 2018 to 2019.
Moira's journey in the field of cultural heritage preservation began in 2014. Moira worked as a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Turin from 2017 to 2018, during which time they also completed their PhD in Chemical and Material Sciences. Their research focused on investigating polymer gels for cleaning artworks.
From 2014 to 2016, Moira held a Fellowship position at the CNR-Istituto per la Conservazione e la Valorizzazione dei Beni Culturali (ICVBC). Moira also gained valuable experience through an internship at Centro Conservazione e Restauro "La Venaria Reale" in 2013, where they studied and characterized the Unilateral Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR-Mouse) technique for historical artistic materials.
Throughout their career, Moira has utilized various techniques such as optical microscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDS), and color measurements in their research and restoration activities. Moira is committed to advancing the field of cultural heritage conservation through their expertise in materials science and conservation techniques.
Moira Bertasa began their education at the University of Turin in 2007, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Science and Technology of Conservation of Cultural Heritage. Moira successfully completed their undergraduate studies in 2010. Moira then continued their education at the same institution and obtained a Master of Science degree in Science of Cultural Heritage in 2013. Their postgraduate studies specialized in the field of Science of Cultural Heritage (LM-11).
